Tristan
Foster name: Tristan
Adoption name: Tristan
History: Though many folks thought Tristan should have been euthanized, GLBCR saw something special in him. He had some major obsessive/compulsive behavior, which is why he came into foster care. We treated him with phenobarbs and started him over as if he was a brand new puppy. Proof that finding the root of a problem behavior, proper treatment, and an understanding environment, can truly save a life and bring joy to a family .

Update: Tristan's forever family understands some of his silly behavior and is committed to maintaining his training and medication. He's even been introduced to 4H agility and obedience. Tristan melts into a puddle of mush for belly scratches! He's smart, energetic, and loves the water. We got a 5-gallon water bowl and when Tristan drinks, it gurgles, so he is terrified of it. Trying to get him to use it, we placed just the bottom part of it out. Beside this big water dish, we set a small water bowl, with a towel underneath. He grabbed part of the towle in his mouth and dragged the small bowl, but it started to slosh, so he stopped. When he thought it was safe he put out his paw and started to straighten out the towel. Then, he went over to his food bowl and started to sneak up on it, so he would grab a little bit of food and run away and eat it then come back and do it again. Everyday I take him outside, brush him and throw some balls for him. Everytime mom goes out back to water and check up on her plants he is right there next to her.

1-10-05 Tristan knows the difference between the back door and front door to go outside to use the bathroom. He is teaching Ava, our other dog, the boundaries of the yard so she can go outside. He goes to bed on command. And unlike other dogs, when we are eating dinner he lays out in the living room and doesn't beg. He still jumps at sounds and snowflakes but he is better at not doing it so much. His fur coat is SO soft you wouldn't believe it. And of coarse like any BC he still DIES for his tennis balls.

07-16-2008 Tristan is living a very happy life. Last year (2007) he tore a leg tendon and has not been able to play and work as much as he did when he was younger. Instead he has learned how to get more belly rubs. Still chases tennis balls and is happy to herd the vacuum cleaner when it is not put away. His latest working job is catching moles. Mom is very unhappy about the holes left behind, but the yard is mole free now. Entering the senior part of his life he spends more of his time sleeping. He has adopted a squeaky toy that looks like a small dog (the only plush toys he likes) that he loves and nurtures to the point that he pulls the stuffing out.

Our family would like to say thank you very much for letting Tristan come into our lives. He is a wonderful dog and a great companion. He has not been on medication for three years and is doing very well. Do to his age he is getting pains in his joints and so he cannot run as much, but he still has all his teeth. He has just started duramax to reduce the joint pains and sometimes forgets that he is a old dog and runs to hard. Kids that visit our home love Tristan because he will play ball as long as they can keep throwing them. The best part of that he always brings the ball right back to the person's feet.

Zip is a 3 year old Border Collie/Collie mix. He's a happy gentle boy that wants nothing more than to be around his family. He has a wonderful new home with a couple of empty-nesters who are really, really nice -- and appreciate his love and laid-back nature. 0801

X Diva (Red Dog, Ruby) A beautiful red & white girl, less than a year old, with a whole lot of energy to expel. Diva is now in the home of one of our active Flyball families, and they love her! Her mom is also one of the founders of the new Michigan DiscDog Club.

X Norman was dumped at the City of Chicago pound in a cage right next to Casper. But it wasn't until after he tried out a family in Buffalo, NY that he ended up coming back to live with his original rescuers Cayla & Greg, and their other GLBCR dog Sadie. Here they are visiting the neighborhood raccoon. 0901

X Chelsea was turned in to the Capital Area Humane Society . It turns out that Chelsea is the half-sister to our President's beloved Tiny! Her coat was in terrible shape, she'd been tied out for 3 years. Despite her neglect, her fantastic breeding shines through. Chelsea is a first class snuggler, and now has a loving home who's making up for lost love. Chelsea has filled a huge hole in her mom and dad's heart, and Chelsea will be loved and spoiled the rest of her life. 1001

X Blaze really hit the jackpot! His new mom is a trainer for Dogs Best Friend works in a shelter. He'll be learning all kinds of fun things for doggies! 1001

X Lucky is a very cool dog! He came in as a stray from Elkhart Indiana along with Colby. Lucky was obviously someone's beloved dog, he knows sit, down, shake and speak......and he's a perfect gentleman in the house! He gets along with cats, loves kids and he found just the right family to love him. 1101

X Chance is a smart, well-mannered loyal 3 year old girl who came to us from Wisconsin Herding Dog Rescue. She loves people She now makes her home on a farm in northern Michigan. 1101

X Winston took over the record for being in rescue the longest. We still don't know why; he had a great smile, lots (and we do mean LOTS) of energy, and love to spare. He finally found the perfect home. 1101

Poppy (Scrappy) is a darling BC/Lab puppy from a shelter in Illinois. This is one of the best combinations, as they have all the great qualities of both breeds -- and usually a bit less of that BC energy. Scrappy now has a wonderful home with a new family who just moved here from England. Cheerio Scrappy! 1201

X Nate is a very sweet sweet dog who was picked up as a stray from Elkhart Indiana. He loves kids and gets along with kitties. Nate probably isn't more than 2 years old, he's still a young boy. He's happy and always smiling. Nate shares his new home with adopted brother Mickey. (HT2) 1201

X Janie came to us from a shelter in southern Indiana. She was a scared little girl when she came in to rescue. Even going outside under the big scary sky was traumatic. No matter what Janie had gone thru, she still never gave up on people. Mike and Gretchen saw the diamond in the rough. They stopped by to meet Janie and she stole their heart. Janie is home forever now, with a rescued sister and a terrific family. 1201

X Quinn loves to play Frisbee and can jump like MJ to catch one. He was rescued from Hillsdale Co. H.S., and thought he had a good home but he needed more than they could give. So he went back to Mary's, but this time to stay. Quinn has joined the Franti Family with his rescued sister Callie and the rest of the Franti Clan. 0202

Jay is a 6-month old boy who's staying with his current family in a Chicago suburb until a new home is found. He's all BC, very active, loves to play, and gets along well with children -- he just needs a home that has more time for his high energy requirements.

Update: Jay's family has renewed their work on his training and have developed creative ways to fulfill his play needs. Now they can't imagine life without him! Yea Jay! 1101
